We all know that IAS exam is a hard nut
to crack. Where this girl Rukmani Riar, from Chandigarh, cleared it with her
undying passion after failing in STD 6, without any coaching.
According
to an Interview with Rediff , Rukmani who is just 29 years old and holds a
master’s degree in social entrepreneurship from Tata Institute of Social Sciences
(TISS), Mumbai . Further she added, that when lodged into a boarding school in
Dalhousie’s Sacred Heart School and hence was unable to cope up with the
pressure, fearing failure ever since she failed class 6th.
Her
depression of the failure helped her a lot as she made herself so strong and
decided not to complain or blame anyone for her failure. She joined the School
of Social Sciences in 2005 and passed out in 2008 getting the gold medal with
distinction.
She
learnt from her failure and it never came back in her life. After completing
her degree, she also worked with Planning Commission of India and NGO's in
Karnataka and Maharashtra to understand the society of India better. Finally,
chose the way to bring changes in society through the route of public services.
She
obtained second position in the entire country in UPSC 2011 batch and cleared
Civil services examination in her first attempt with political science and
sociology as her main subjects. She is also interested in writing poetries and
is truly a believer of hard work and dedication. Becoming an IAS officer was
the result of her strong determination, true struggle and hard work.
In
an interview with IBM Live, Rukmani stated:
“My
hard work has paid off and I am very happy. I credit my parents, teachers,
friends, and above all god for the success. My message to aspiring candidates
is that consistency, hard work, and persistence is the key to success. Go for
it. If I can do it, everybody else can, and nothing can stop you.”
